Workshop with Andrés Alfaro Hofmann
FECHA
22.07.2024
During these days the students of the different MArch programs have been introduced to product design by Andrés Alfaro Hofmann, with an analysis of the work done by designers such as Peter Behrens, Dieter Rams, Jonathan Ive or Arne Jacobsen for companies such as AEG, Braun or Apple.
Then, starting with the workshop, they faced the challenge of redesigning a part of a razor blade. To do this, they have been able to learn about the evolution of this object of domestic use, since its appearance, until today, attending to different examples exhibited in the exhibition “100 years of the razor” curated by Andrés Alfaro Hofmann himself.
Andrés Alfaro Hofmann is partner and interior design director of Fran Silvestre Arquitectos. He is also a member of ADI-FAD since 1990 and a member of the Association of Interior Designers of the Valencian Community (CDICV). He is also a trustee of the Fundació Història del Disseny and the Fundació del Disseny de la Comunitat Valenciana. He stands out in his facets as a designer, interior designer, collector and researcher of the design of the domestic environment and since the late seventies, has been building an impressive collection of industrial design that has more than 6,000 pieces, mainly household appliances. This collection, known as the Alfaro Hofmann Collection, is one of the most important in Europe in its field. The collection has a permanent exhibition at the Espai Alfaro, in Godella (Valencia), which is open to the public and offers a detailed overview of the history of household appliances.
In 2022, he received the ADI Culture Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his collection’s efforts to preserve and disseminate the heritage value of objects and to explain, through them, the profession of industrial design.
