From February 21 to 28, the students of the MArch Advanced program in architecture, design, and business management traveled to Olot to participate in a workshop organized by RCR Arquitectes, winners of the prestigious Pritzker Prize in 2017.
This workshop, held in La Vila, a unique and emblematic setting, offered students the opportunity to experience and deepen their understanding of architectural design from a perspective that goes beyond traditional theory. The choice of this location, surrounded by nature and tranquility, reinforces the central idea of the workshop: total immersion in the landscape and a reflection on how the environment influences the professional practice of architecture.
The workshop, titled “Feeling the Place,” aims to provoke a deep reflection among participants about the connection between human beings and their surroundings. Throughout the week, students were guided through various activities designed to expand their perception and understanding of space. One of the main aspects of the workshop was a dance session led by choreographer Sílvia Brossa, encouraging participants to explore movement as a way to connect emotionally with the spaces they inhabit. Additionally, a photography workshop by Eugeni Pons provided them with tools to visually capture the essence of the landscape, while a philosophy session led by Jordi Pigem offered insights into the relationship between humans and nature, and how this connection integrates into architecture and design.
The setting of this workshop is, without a doubt, an exceptional backdrop for the proposed activities. La Vila is located within a 140-hectare natural landscape, a space where nature unfolds freely, untouched by human intervention. This place, characterized by its biodiversity and authenticity, allows participants to fully immerse themselves in an environment that remains unaltered by human action. In this way, students have the opportunity to engage in a genuine learning experience, understanding how the natural environment can inspire the creation of architectural projects that respect and harmoniously integrate with nature.
