On Friday, January 31, the students of the MArch programs, during their stay in Barcelona, visited the Fundació Miralles, where they were welcomed by Ilia Celiento, coordinator and curator of the foundation’s various activities.

Ilia explained to the students the origins of the foundation and some of the pieces currently on display. The Fundació Miralles is an institution dedicated to preserving and promoting the legacy of Catalan architect Enric Miralles, a key figure in contemporary architecture. Founded in 2010, its mission is to foster knowledge and understanding of his work, as well as to encourage research and reflection in the fields of architecture and urbanism.

The foundation not only preserves and disseminates Miralles’ work but also organizes exhibitions, conferences, and activities related to architecture. Additionally, it is dedicated to the conservation of his architectural projects and the compilation of his personal and professional archive, which includes plans, drawings, and other documents showcasing his creative and methodological process. Through the foundation, the goal is not only to honor Miralles but also to inspire new generations of architects and creatives to continue exploring and developing innovative approaches to architecture and urban design.

Following this visit, the students explored the EMBT Miralles Tagliabue studio, located in the same building as the foundation. In the entrance hall, they encountered some designs by Benedetta Tagliabue, which were featured in previous Venice Architecture Biennales, as well as a lamp presented at the Milan Fair. Once inside the studio, the students observed how the team organizes itself for project development, the references they draw upon, and their working methodology. They also had the opportunity to appreciate how a former bourgeois residence has been transformed into a workspace while preserving the original identity of the building.
