The Veil skyscraper in Dubai, designed by RCR Architects in collaboration with Muraba, is a 380-metre, 73-storey tower that combines elegance and functionality. Inspired by traditional Arabic architecture, the stainless steel façade protects a cool, communal core, with spacious and airy homes. At its base, recreational spaces such as swimming pools, restaurants and meeting rooms evoke desert landscapes, offering a luxurious and sustainable residential experience in an urban environment.
The Veil skyscraper, the result of a collaboration between 2017 Pritzker Prize-winning studio and MArch graduate program participant RCR Arquitectes, renowned for its innovative approach, and developer Muraba, stands as an imposing structure in Dubai, next to Sheikh Zayed Road. The 380-meter, 73-story tower stands out for its slender, elegant and functional design, housing 131 apartments, distributed in units of two to five bedrooms. Each apartment occupies the entire width of the building – 22.5 meters – ensuring that residents enjoy wide views and natural ventilation.
The façade design is one of the most notable aspects of the tower, as it is clad in stainless steel, a material that protects the inner layers of the building. Inspired by traditional Arabic houses, this structure not only provides a modern aesthetic, but also regulates the internal temperature efficiently. Through a series of layers, residents are led towards a cool, communal core, where the architecture seeks to create a balance between the private and the collective, in line with RCR’s legacy of blending the natural and built environments.
At the base of the tower, a space designed to evoke desert sands and wind-eroded caves houses high-end recreational facilities. These include swimming pools, restaurants, a cinema and meeting rooms, creating an exclusive and luxurious environment for residents. This architectural ensemble successfully integrates traditional and contemporary elements, ensuring not only a luxury residential experience, but also a sustainable construction well adapted to Dubai’s demanding climatic conditions.
