The creative studio PalauGea was present at MArch to share some of its most important projects with the students, including the publishing company Gràffica. On this occasion, with the presence of Víctor Palau, the students had the opportunity to learn about some of his projects as a design studio, as well as his increasingly consolidated career in the publishing world.
Among the works developed by the PalauGea studio, they shared the design of the Severo Ochoa award, a simple but resounding image that is still valid today. Also the redesign in 2018 of the image of the annual report of Cotec, the organisation that audits the situation of innovation in Spain every year, with the characteristic that the book, which had 1,500 copies, had a different cover in each case. They also shared the work carried out for EMTRE (Entidad Metropolitana para el Tratamiento de Residuos), which sought to create an awareness campaign for recycling.
In the publishing field, Víctor shared how the most visited web publishing medium specialising in graphic design in the Spanish-speaking world, Gràffica, was born, as well as how it expanded online and how they started working on its offline production in the form of a magazine. He also talked about their sister platforms, ¡Mússica! and Öbjetto, as well as sharing with us some of their graphic design projects, such as the Universe of Emotions project they developed together with Eduard Punset and the book Vivir del diseño written by Ana Gea.
The first, “Universe of Emotions” is a work that combines art, design, creativity, science, psychology and entertainment, created by Eduard Punset, Rafael Bisquerra and PalauGea. This multidisciplinary project aims to help manage emotions, a fundamental basis for social and emotional learning. The book makes it possible to identify and visualise more than three hundred emotions, facilitating their understanding. Together with the poster of the same name, “Universe of Emotions” is a tool that helps us to understand the complex mechanism of our emotional world, offering a starting point to better manage our feelings.
The second, “Making a living from design. Instructions for managing your creative business (if you want to)”, is a book created to share useful knowledge and experiences for creative professionals. Throughout its 350 pages, it offers a comprehensive overview of the business of creativity and the different stages of its management. It covers practical topics such as job hunting, freelance work, running a design studio, client acquisition, promotion, team management, budgeting and contract writing. It also addresses issues such as decision-making, challenges, change, relationship management, loneliness, criticism, ego and empathy, reflecting the day-to-day realities of managing in creative professions.
