Portfolio Session with Cassandra Carvas at MArch

Portuguese architect Cassandra Carvas visited MArch to share her professional experience with students and offer insights into the process of developing a strong portfolio.

In her talk, she addressed topics such as the careful selection of projects to include in a portfolio, the clear and logical organization of content, and the importance of the narrative behind each project. She also shared advice on how to highlight key skills and achievements, along with recommendations on how to present work in a precise and professional manner, using high-quality images, detailed descriptions, and, when relevant, physical models or renders.

Additionally, she shared strategies for adapting portfolios to different audiences and purposes, such as job applications, client presentations, or self-promotion on digital platforms. The session also included an analysis of current trends in portfolio design and the digital tools available for creating impactful presentations. Cassandra Carvas provided valuable practical tips on how to effectively present creative and professional work, focusing on showcasing students’ skills and projects through a visually appealing and well-structured portfolio.

Cassandra Carvas is known for her work with the renowned studio of Manuel Aires Mateus, where she plays a key role as coordinator of the Aires Mateus Workshop—an educational initiative that is part of the MArch postgraduate school. She is also the co-founder of the Carvasmachado studio. Throughout her career, she has combined professional practice with teaching and academic work, allowing her to develop a unique perspective on architecture and project presentation. Recently, Carvas had the opportunity to give a lecture at the Centre Octubre, a cultural and educational space that hosts students from various MArch programs. During this session, she shared her knowledge and experience with attendees, offering a comprehensive view of the importance of a well-structured portfolio as a fundamental tool for emerging architects. The session became a space for reflection and learning, where essential topics for building a successful career in architecture were explored.
