The first Lebond watch, designed by Álvaro Siza, showed that famous architects can create magic even in an object as everyday as a watch. Now, this trip has a new chapter with a watch designed by the other Portuguese Pritzker laureate: Eduardo Souto de Moura.
Keen to bring a new approach to familiar elements, Souto de Moura has created a round watch with a unique twist: the dial, movement and crown are tilted 30 degrees clockwise. This architectural vision of the watch offers a completely new experience for the wearer, challenging the conventional perception of time. Despite its unusual shape, Souto de Moura has kept the dial as minimalist as possible, with lever-style hands that contrast boldly with the background color, ensuring easy reading of the time.
The main reference is the number 12, highlighted with a bold hour marker, making it easy to read the time, even with the 30-degree tilt angle. Additional markers at the three, six and nine o’clock positions contribute to the symmetry, along with smaller markers indicating the rest of the hours and dots indicating the minutes. In short, the watch designed by Souto de Moura is not only functional, but also challenges design conventions and offers a unique experience in time measurement.
