Ibán Ramón has created the graphic identity for Polirítmia, a Mediterranean music festival to be held from December 21 to 29. His design, based on dynamic lettering, evokes a resonating chamber that reflects the richness and fluidity of Mediterranean music, solidifying the festival as a cultural landmark.
The recently mentioned graphic designer Ibán Ramón, who also designed the new image for the Espai Guastavino at the College of Architects of Valencia, has been entrusted with creating the visual identity for the 7th Mediterranean Music Festival, Polirítmia, organized by the Valencian Institute of Culture. This festival, which has become a cultural benchmark for exploring and celebrating the richness of Mediterranean music, is shifting its usual schedule to December 21–29 for this edition, following its last iteration in July 2023. This seasonal change brings a renewed dimension to the event, opening new opportunities to reinterpret its essence and visual approach.
Ibán Ramón’s graphic proposal reflects his sensitivity to capturing Polirítmia’s unique spirit. Drawing inspiration from the letters that make up the festival’s name, the acclaimed designer creates a composition that suggests a resonating chamber—a symbolic space where music comes to life. The letters of “Polirítmia” are presented dynamically, varying in size, direction, and arrangement. This typographic interplay alludes to the fluid, continuous, and vibrant nature of Mediterranean music, characterized by its diverse rhythms and styles. The design is not only visually striking but also encapsulates the essence of the festival: a dialogue between cultures and sounds. Each letter seems to move to an invisible melody, creating a visual effect that resonates with the polyphonic and multicultural spirit of the event. The dynamic shapes, proportions, and directions strike a balance between order and spontaneity, evoking the unpredictable and rich nature of Mediterranean music.
Ibán Ramón’s work for Polirítmia aims not only to attract the public but also to strengthen the festival’s identity as an event that transcends borders. Through his design, Ramón successfully combines graphic innovation with cultural tradition, emphasizing Polirítmia’s importance as a space for celebrating Mediterranean music, dance, and rhythm. Furthermore, the use of typography as a central element is deliberate. Ramón employs the characters not just as tools for communication but as symbols of a universal language: music. This conceptual approach, characteristic of the designer, reinforces the connection between graphic design and the artistic disciplines celebrated by the festival.
