Recently, students from the MArch Postgraduate Program in Applied Architecture, the Master’s in Architecture, Design, and Innovation, and the Advanced Master’s in Architecture, Design, and Business Administration embarked on an enriching trip to Barcelona.

During this journey, they had the opportunity to explore some of the city’s most relevant architecture studios, immersing themselves in the world of contemporary design and architectural innovation. During their visit to Francesc Rifé’s studio, the students were welcomed by Sergio Alfonso, a former MArch student who is now an essential part of Rifé’s team. Additionally, they had the chance to appreciate the designs exhibited at RI Culture, a space dedicated to his work, as well as the Alzueta Gallery, designed by Rifé himself.

On Thursday afternoon, the students attended a lecture by Alberto Veiga from the renowned studio Barozzi Veiga on the 8th floor of COAC, a privileged location offering stunning views of the city’s historic center. This talk provided students with a unique perspective on the creative process and architectural vision that characterize the studio and its methodology when tackling architectural competitions, fostering an open and enriching dialogue on architectural practice. On Friday, the day began with a visit to the Moll de Pescadors, one of the latest works by OAB · Ferrater studio, where Lucía Ferrater and Nuria Ayala guided the students through the project. They later presented a documentary about the studio’s work, followed by a discussion with the architects.

The visit continued with a tour of the EMBT Miralles Tagliabue studio, where students had the opportunity to explore the Enric Miralles Foundation as well as the headquarters of this emblematic architectural firm. In the afternoon, the group moved to Montjuïc, an area rich in history and architectural culture, to visit the iconic Mies van der Rohe Pavilion and the Caixaforum—two representative examples of Barcelona’s architectural legacy. This trip not only allowed students to experience up close the most influential works and studios in the city but also provided them with the opportunity to interact with renowned professionals, broadening their understanding of architectural practice in an international context.
