This Thursday the Portuguese architect Luisa Moura, member of the Souto de Moura team, was in Valencia to share with MArch students some of the most relevant projects in which she has been directly involved by the studio recognized with a Pritzker prize in 2011.
Luisa Moura’s career is also very interesting. After completing her architecture studies, she began her professional career alongside Nuno Brandao Costa, another renowned Portuguese architect, as she began to develop her teaching side at the university. She later joined Souto de Moura’s studio, and since then she has collaborated on numerous projects such as the house in Zagreb, the Bruges Convention Center, the Barra house in Zurich or the exhibition project for the Royal Academy in London.
The body of work from Souto de Moura’s studio is characterized by showing a deep influence and admiration for Mies van der Rohe and his masterful use of materials. Granite, wood, marble, steel, brick and concrete take on surprising shades in their designs. Souto de Moura clearly expresses his approach to the use of materials, which is evident in projects such as Paula Rego’s Casa das Histórias. His outstanding work earned him the prestigious Pritzker Prize in 2011.
