The Portuguese architect António Choupina, who maintains a strong connection with Álvaro Siza, coordinating numerous exhibitions around him and organizing the events related to the 90th anniversary of the first Portuguese Pritzker Prize, has recently visited MArch to share his professional experience alongside the master and review his career.

In his exhibition tour, António Choupina has shown what Siza’s beginnings were like alongside Fernando Távora, and how while he was still very young he began to develop projects in his private capacity, always with the support and recommendation of Távora himself. Next, he took a journey through some of the most representative works of the great master, sharing numerous references and showing all the wisdom and architecture that each of his projects contains. In addition, he has advanced some aspects related to certain projects that the students will be able to enjoy during the trip to Porto. The presentation has also served to give you an idea of the influence of Siza’s work on other younger architects, as it has covered everything from his first works to some of his most recent ones.

António Choupina is an architect from the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Porto. In 2010 he founded the CH.A workshop (CHoupina.Arquitectos). He is responsible for the interventions in the crypt of Charles V of Granada and in the Sverre Fehn Pavilion during the Official Visit of the Presidency of the Republic to Norway. Recently he has accompanied the construction of the Álvaro Siza Pavilion at the China International Furniture Fair, with whom he has developed several cultural projects, in collaboration with Aedes Berlin, the Vitra Design Museum and the Aga Khan Network. As a curator, he has curated exhibitions at the Serralves Museum, the Nadir Afonso Museum, the Espai Alfaro, the Tchoban Foundation or the Marques da Silva Foundation, producing multiple publications on the frontier of architecture, art and philosophy.
