The famous architect Juan Domingo Santos, winner of a FAD Award for Thought and Criticism, and professor of projects at the Technical School of Architecture of Granada, has been at MArch recently sharing experiences from his professional career.
With an intervention structured in two parts, he has dedicated a first section to what can be considered his life project: the recovery and enhancement of the San Isidro Sugar Factory in Granada. Today, his studio is in the alcohol tower of this old sugar factory in Granada, which he originally recovered through a project to revitalize an industrial space as a place to live and work, and which, later and after many vicissitudes, he has managed to end up being the future campus of the University of Granada.
He has also shown his connection with the place through the short film ‘Un Encounter’ directed by Juan Bollaín, in which he recounts his life and experiences carried out since 1986 in the factory, emphasizing his action to rescue this abandoned industrial site.
The second part has served to share some of his projects, highlighting the Lanjarón Water Museum, the House in an Orchard with Cherry Trees or the House on a Hillside, in addition to other interventions of an ephemeral nature but no less important in his professional career.
