Recently, the first capsule collection from Sharma, a new Portuguese jewelry brand, was unveiled in the atrium of the Serralves Museum of Art. This collection is signed by architect and Pritzker Prize laureate Álvaro Siza.
Sharma is a jewelry brand founded by Brigitte Costa and Bruna Cabral, and it embarks on its journey alongside one of today’s greatest architects and the most influential figure in Portugal’s architectural history. Crafted in 19-karat gold and featuring both colorless and black diamonds, the collection includes a necklace, earrings, bracelet, and ring. It is available in a symbolically limited edition of 91 sets—matching the age of Siza when the collection was created.
Sharma was launched just over a month ago, born from the passion of two friends for jewelry. Neither of them had worked in the field before, coming from different backgrounds, but they saw this idea as an opportunity to add a new dimension to their professional lives. Every two months, Sharma will release new collections, always in limited editions. The capsule collections will arise from challenges posed to Portuguese creators, as was the case with Siza. Designers, fashion figures, filmmakers, television personalities, architects, and others will be invited to contribute. The next two capsule collections will be designed by Álvaro Siza Vieira’s son and grandson, Henrique Siza Vieira.
As for this collection of four pieces signed by Álvaro Siza, there’s another distinctive detail: when the architect was commissioned to create a necklace, he presented Sharma with two drawings—one he deemed simpler and another more complex and difficult to execute. The brand accepted Siza’s challenge and chose the second, “more difficult” design, successfully bringing the piece to life. Each of the 91 sets in the collection, which was presented in the atrium of the Serralves Museum of Art in Porto with Siza himself in attendance, is priced at €30,000.
