On Tuesday, February 11th, as part of the Madrid Design Festival, the ONLY YOU Boutique Hotel in the capital will host the opening of the exhibition The Light of Coderch, an event of great significance in the world of design and architecture.

This exhibition, which includes the collaboration of Rafael Salvador, great-nephew of José Antonio Coderch and founder of TUNDS EDITORES, serves as a tribute to the legacy of one of the great masters of Spanish industrial design. Through its partnership with TUNDS EDITORES, which holds the exclusive privilege of publishing Coderch’s lighting work, the exhibition provides a unique opportunity to appreciate his most iconic pieces. In particular, it highlights the DISA lamp, a symbol of good design that has endured for 70 years. This lamp, which has become a reference in lighting design, stands as the centerpiece of an exhibition that not only celebrates aesthetics but also emphasizes the functionality and timelessness of Coderch’s work.

The exhibition, open to the public from February 11th to 25th, is part of the festival’s official program and is sponsored by SIMON, a company recognized for its commitment to innovation in the field of lighting. Throughout the exhibition, visitors will have the opportunity to explore the evolution of Coderch’s work through a carefully curated selection of models, prototypes, notes, and sketches of the various lighting designs created by the architect. Additionally, the exhibition includes posters and historical documents that illustrate Coderch’s career as a designer and his profound influence on architecture and design in the second half of the 20th century. Each piece on display serves as a testament to his ability to integrate light, materials, and functionality, creating solutions that not only meet a need but also enrich the spaces they inhabit.

The exhibition will conclude on February 25th with a talk titled The Light of Coderch: An Innovative and Artisanal Vision, featuring design expert and critic Juli Capella in conversation with Rafael Salvador about the vision and career of this international icon. Moderated by Pilar Marcos, Director of Diseño Interior and lecturer at MArch, the discussion will delve into the meaning and relevance of Coderch’s work—a body of work that, over the years, has maintained a dialogue with tradition and nature, blending craftsmanship with innovation. This talk will explore the key aspects of Coderch’s unique approach to lighting design, his ability to capture the essence of light and its interaction with space, and his fresh, modern perspective that has influenced generations of designers. This conversation promises to be the perfect conclusion to an exhibition that not only celebrates the legacy of a design genius but also invites us to reflect on how light and materials can transform spaces and the way we live.
