The Efficient Beauty – Fran Silvestre

The 02_Investigate module began with a presentation by the director of the MArch programs, Fran Silvestre, who on this occasion did so by sharing with the students some of the projects carried out by the Fran Silvestre Arquitectos studio, introducing the processes of materializing ideas through making models.
Likewise, he did the same with the way in which each project is approached from the study, from the arrival of the order, to the relations with the different industrialists once it is in the execution phase.
Fran Silvestre, architect in the specialty of building by the ETSA of Valencia and urban planning by the Technische Universiteit Eindhoven, doctor Cum Laude by the Polytechnic University of Valencia. On the academic level, he was deputy director of the UPV School of Architecture between 2010 and 2012. He is currently a professor of projects at the UPV and founder and director of the MArch Postgraduate School of Architecture and Design at the European University of Valencia. Likewise, in 2018 he was chosen to occupy the Regnier Chair at Kansas State University, where he directed the fifth course of architectural projects. He has been a visiting professor at universities such as VirginiaTech, Blacksburg, UBA, CEDIM or the University of Seville, among others.
In the exercise of the profession, he has collaborated with the Portuguese architect Álvaro Siza Vieira, Pritzker Prize winner and Doctor Honoris Causa, between 2002 and 2004. In 2005 he founded his own studio, Fran Silvestre Arquitectos, and currently has works in different places on the planet such as China, Australia, Nigeria, Thailand and the United States, as well as Spain, and has received various awards such as: the Red Dot Award: Product Design (2013), the Build Architecture Award (2015), the WIN Architecture Award ( 2015), the NYCxDesign Award (2016) or the German Design Award (2015, 2016 and 2021), among others. The studio’s projects have been exhibited in various Museums and Contemporary Art Galleries and have been published in international Architecture and Design magazines such as Architectural Record, TC Cuadernos, Arquitectura Viva, GA Houses, IW Magazine, The Plan or On Diseño.
